Life's Burdens

We have no right to ask when sorrow comes, "Why did this happen to me?" unless we ask the same question for every moment of happiness that comes our way.
~Author Unknown

I know God will not give me anything I can't handle.  I just wish that He didn't trust me so much.
~Mother Teresa

The healthy and strong individual is the one who asks for help when he needs it.  Whether he's got an abscess on his knee or in his soul.
~Rona Barrett

I ask not for a lighter burden, but for broader shoulders.
~Jewish Proverb

Adversity is like a strong wind.  It tears away from us all but the things that cannot be torn, so that we see ourselves as we really are.
~Arthur Golden, Memoirs of a Geisha

Smooth seas do not make skillful sailors.
~African Proverb

The soul would have no rainbow had the eyes no tears.
~John Vance Cheney

There is in every true woman's heart a spark of heavenly fire, which lies dormant in the broad daylight of prosperity; but which kindles up, and beams and blazes in the dark hour of adversity.
~Washington Irving, The Sketch Book, 1820

The art of living lies less in eliminating our troubles than in growing with them.
~Bernard M. Baruch

Fear knocked at the door.  Faith answered.  And lo, no one was there.

Faith is courage; it is creative while despair is always destructive.

Every tomorrow has two handles.  We can take hold of it by the handle of anxiety, or by the handle of faith.
~Author Unknown

As your faith is strengthened you will find that there is no longer the need to have a sense of control, that things will flow as they will, and that you will flow with them, to your great delight and benefit.

Friendship isn't a big thing - it's a million little things.
~Author Unknown

When we honestly ask ourselves which person in our lives mean the most to us, we often find that it is those who, instead of giving advice, solutions, or cures, have chosen rather to share our pain and touch our wounds with a warm and tender hand.  The friend who can be silent with us in a moment of despair or confusion, who can stay with us in an hour of grief and bereavement, who can tolerate not knowing, not curing, not healing and face with us the reality of our powerlessness, that is a friend who cares.
~Henri Nouwen

A good friend is cheaper than therapy.
~Author Unknown

You have to walk carefully in the beginning of love; the running across fields into your lover's arms can only come later when you're sure they won't laugh if you trip.
~Jonathan Carroll, "Outside the Dog Museum"

Life is simple, it's just not easy.
~Author Unknown

God asks no man whether he will accept life.  That is not the choice.  You must take it.  The only question is how.
~Henry Ward Beecher

In the book of life, the answers aren't in the back.
~Charlie Brown

Our faith in the present dies out long before our faith in the future.

Yes, yes, yes...

We all know that I'm a slacker since I haven't posted since Christmas.  OMG not.. *gasp* FOUR DAYS!  (Although, technically it's been 8 days since my post on X-mas was nothing but the Friday Five....)  So... the past 8 days...

If I remember correctly...

Monday, December 22...

I did a whole lot of nothing for most of the day and then in the evening I went for training at Vegas Lounge & Restaurant.  I got home... and continued doing nothing.

Tuesday, December 23...

I believe that Cameron and I went shopping... Cameron, Larissa and I went shopping, at the mall.  I think.  Yes, yes we did.  And then Cameron and I were going to go to Dollar Tuesday, but we were distracted playing Sorry! and Shapoo and other games with Larissa so we stayed here and played games with Larissa.

Wednesday, December 24...

Christmas Eve Day.  Fails came to Christmas Eve dinner.  We opened lots of presents (well, not 'lots' really, but enough.)  I got wonderful things like a very warm blanket that I have slept with every night, a few useful electronic devices for my PS2, books, music, DVDs, lovely presents.

Thursday, December 25...

Christmas Day Day.  Woke up around 10, opened presents from 'Santa' which included sheet music books, electronic Catch Phrase, etc.  Spent most of the day fixing the computer and getting Sims to work.

Friday, December 26...

Spent most of the day doing nothing.  Cameron came over in the afternoon to hang out for awhile until I had to go to work.  I went to work and trained with Kari, ran a 6 top myself, made a whole $8 in tips... ooo.  Would've been more if the kitchen hadn't messed up the food.  Oh well!  But explain to me why the waitress gets screwed if the kitchen messes up?  Oh well, whatever.  Money is unimportant and since this job is quite fun, I don't really care.

Saturday, December 27...

We went down to Chicago to visit Grandma and Uncle Bud.  We managed to leave here by 9:30 and get home by 8ish.  Spent the rest of the evening playing Sims rather than hanging out with Cameron, which I would have liked to have been doing but sometimes, you can't have what you want.

Sunday, December 28...

I have no idea what I did on Sunday.  WAIT, I LIED.  Sunday, Cameron came over around 1, we took Larissa shopping at Media Play (where we spent WAY too much money on PS2 equipment, and a couple other things), Barnes and Nobel (where I bought Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister by the guy who wrote Wicked) and Waldenbooks (where I bought Wicked since stupid B&N didn't have it).  Then we raced home and subsequently walked right back out the door to go see Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King with my family (Babcia not included).  We got back here around 8:30, I believe, having gone to the 4:30 show, and Cameron and I played PS2 for awhile, took a nap, had a rather pointless argument and came to a semi-comprimise before he left, around 10.  I watched Law & Order with Mom & Dad and then played on the computer for awhile before going downstairs.  Then I finished the not-so-trashy (no sex scenes) romance novel that I was reading, read a bit of Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister and then went to sleep around 2 a.m.

Monday, December 29...

Today I spent most of the day cleaning.  Then I went to work around 4ish where we were overstaffed and had a grand total of, like, 5 tables between 4 and 9 and, instead, spent most of the evening talking in the kitchen and randomly singing with Jen, Holly and Jennette when Ben would let us.  Anyways, so I had a table of rather rude stuck up "in the restaurant business" women but... you're gonna have that.  So, I left around 10 after making $10 in tips from the one table I had and I went home.  Exciting. :)

Tomorrow morning, Monica and Matt are stopping by for some mysterious reason and then I will be cleaning and cleaning and cleaning but hopefully being able to stop and go out to Dollar Tuesday with my boyfriend cuz that would make me smile.  And now, it's time to finish this entry and go amuse myself with my reading.

Gnyte all!  (AND IF SOME OF YOU DON'T STOP AND VISIT ME SOMETIME AT VL&R, THERE WILL BE HELL TO PAY!!!!!  J/K :)  Hehehe...)

Year-End Friday Five...

Yeah, I know it's not quite Friday yet but it will be in about 13 minutes so... deal with it.

1. What was your biggest accomplishment this year?  Two, actually... Finding a wonderful boyfriend and finding a real job.  As much as I loved working for Theatrix (and I really did, regardless of how much I complained) and I would do it for free, or if I had nothing to pay for in life, I do need a job that actually provides an income which I can use to pay for school/car/etc.  So yay for working at the restaurant and not chickening out, regardless of Jim and Matt W.'s opinions.

2. What was your biggest disappointment?  Two, again, my grades, which were not so great because I was a slacker, and I freely admit it, and pretty much losing someone I considered to be my best friend.  But, I guess, sometimes you're going to have that and, as hard as you try, there isn't a lot you can do about it.

3. What do you hope the new year brings?  Happiness, weight loss... and for all my single friends - wonderful significant others, like they all deserve.

4. Will you be making any New Year's resolutions? If yes, what will they be?  Probably something about being less of a slacker, and more patient and hardworking.

5. What are your plans for New Year's Eve?  I am having a PAR-TAY at my house and I am very excited about it!  :)

Caught a little *cough* and lost some petals. How come things can go so wrong?

I dunno... I shouldn't post... I think I can't handle drink because I only had a mudslide but I feel drunk.  Maybe drinking when you're depressed makes you drunk faster... I dunno.  But I don't understand why Mr. Hart doesn't do the 'I'm holding you by the head and giving you advice or telling you how great you are' thing to me... and it makes me sad.  like, seriously, sad to the point of crying.  And I think I'm going to not work at the restaurant because I'm hearing lots of bad things about it.  And that makes me sad too because then I have to find a different job.  But now I'm going to bed.  Cuz I quit.

Don't do drugs. Wait til you're a rockstar... then they give 'em to you for free!

Yeah, so there's ONE HUNDRED AND SIXTY SEVEN DAYS UNTIL HARRY POTTER & THE PRISONER OF AZKABAN IS RELEASED IN THEATRES!  YAY!!!  Emma Thompson!  Alan Rickman!  David Radcliffe and Rupert Grint and Tom Felton and Emma Watson!  Julie Christie!  John Cleese!  Robbie Coltrane!  Dawn French!  The Phelps twins!  Maggie Smith!  Sean Biggerstaff!  Jason Issacs!  Mmmm so many wonderful people!  I LOVE HARRY POTTER!

In other news, I want to go see Love Actually and Timeline again.  Very good movies.

Last night, we went to Perkins (as you could tell by the Perkins Time! song I posted last night) and then I got home and jumped into mom's car and we went to Barnes & Noble, Media Play & Walmart.  MOMMY GOT ME THE LOTR3 SOUNDTRACK!!  Yay for Billy Boyd singing prettily!  Cutest little hobbitses in the world: Merry & Pippen!

Anyways, I am going to go clean and such because I'm a good daughter with a wonderful Mommy who is going to LOVE her Christmas present (provided it gets here by X-mas - eek!)!!!!

Dead Fish In The Middle Of The Road...

So, here's Laura's really bad joke...
A man came to a farmer and asked if he had any spare jobs he could do, for he had no money.  the farmer gave him a tin of paint and sent him to paint the porch.
The guy returned to the farmer soon after who was surprised at his quick work.
The guy replied, "Oh, it was easy. and by the way, it wasn't a porsche, it was a BMW."

Yeah, it kinda made me groan but it made me smile and giggle a bit.

That's all for today...

Well, except, Wonderful Life opened and didn't suck Balzac and then there was Perkins Time! Perkins Time!

Perkins time, Perkins time
Come on, mateys, Perkins time
Perkins time
Perkins time, Perkins time
Perkins time, Perkins time
Never need a reason,
Never need a rhyme
Perkins time, it's Perkins time!

Kick your knees up!
Kick your knees up, Perkins time
Kick your knees up, Perkins time
Never need a reason,
Never need a rhyme
Kick your knees up, Perkins time

Perkins time, Perkins time
Perkins time, Perkins time
Never need a reason,
Never need a rhyme
Perkins time, it's Perkins time!

Ah! They're at it again!
Ah! They're at it again, Perkins time
Ah! They're at it again, Perkins time
Ah! They're at it again, Perkins time

It's the master!
It's the master, Perkins time
It's the master, Perkins time

What's all this?
What's all this?
What's all this?

ANYWAYS, now that I have completely exploited Richard M. & Robert B. Sherman's lovely lyrics in Mary Poppins, I shall mosey on over to make myself some fried rice and then go to bed.  Gnyte all!

Blah Blah Blah

Today is Tuesday.  Yesterday was Monday.  Nothing exciting happened.  I went to school, took my Aural Skills final, didn't flunk it too badly, hung out in the ER with Laura and Nichole (and Matt for a couple minutes) and we played Rummy until Mommy came to take me away to go shopping and get lunch, afterwards I came back to school and went to an entirely pointless Theory class before going home.  At home, I did... nothing.  Well, I played Sims.  But that qualifies as 'nothing.'  Then I went to Wonderful Life rehearsal which was... interesting due to the lack of set pieces, lights, etc.  After rehearsal, I came home and watched some TV before going to bed.  So far today, I have done nothing.  Literally.  I slept til 11 and then went up and took a shower and now I'm journalling.  Later I will probably be going shopping with Cameron and then going to rehearsal, after which I was supposed to go see Lord of the Rings: Return of the King, but I think I'm going to come home and sleep instead, unless I go to Dollar Tuesday.  But yeah, so that's been the exciting past 2 days.  Rah!

Yeah...

So then I updated something OTHER than quizzes and "I'll update soon."

This weekend, thus far, has been good.  Friday I got up early and took my car in, came back home and cleaned for awhile, went to class, went with Dad to pick up my car (and got a full tank of gas in the process) and then came home.  Cameron came over and we, well, did a lot of nothing... played cards, went to dinner with Larissa, taught her Shapoo, nothing too exciting.  Saturday, I slept in, spent the day at home (playing Sims mostly).  In the evening, Cameron came over and we played Rummy with Lara (I kicked their asses!), and then we went to see Timeline.  Pretty good movie, I thought.  I have to admit, though, that I would rather have spent the $6 on Once Upon A Time In Mexico (which I saw Tuesday) and the $1 on Timeline.  Oh well.  It all balances out in the end.  Anywho, it's way past my bedtime and I imagine I will be up late-ish playing D&D tomorrow so I am going to head to bed.

Gnyte!
